Not many people are aware that there are four airports in Kuala Lumpur; one – the main airport which is the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA); two – the low-cost airlines terminal hub a short distance away called the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) which serves budget and low-cost airlines; three – the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport or Subang Airport which was the previous main airport to Kuala Lumpur and four – the Royal Malaysian Air Force military airport at Sungei Besi in Kuala Lumpur city centre.
Only the KLIA and the LCCT airports cater to daily uninterrupted international and domestic commercial flights; no doubt the Subang airport do offer flights but they are only a few commercial flights via two domestic budget airlines – Firefly and Berjaya Air to a few regional and domestic destinations, and certain landing and take-off to military air crafts and private jets. For the Sungei Besi military airport, it caters to only the Malaysian military and government official flights.
In this article, you could be surprised to find only information on hotels near to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and no mention of the Low Cost Carrier Terminal. That is until once you realise the Low Cost Carrier Terminal is a short distance away from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and hotels that are near to the KLIA will be close to LCCT too.
If you are on international flight transit or a brief stopover and like to unwind, freshen up or take a nice shower, the Airside Transit Hotel which is own and managed by Malaysia Airports Holdings, the owner of the KLIA can offer you that nicely. The Airside Hotel is perfect for the in-between flight traveller who do not want to check through the Malaysian Immigration – the hotel is at the Satellite A Building which is inside the airport and before the Immigration checkpoint. A great option found in this hotel is the ability to either check-in as guest or non check-in guest : for guests, the room rates charges according to each 6 hours (block) rates and non check-in guests can opt to shower and exercise at low rates.
If you decide to check through the Malaysian Immigration and decide to look for a hotel after the Immigration checkpoint, there is the 5-star Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport Hotel which link via a covered sky-bridge to the Main Terminal Building which house the arrival and departure halls. For those with lots of luggage or have difficulty walking, there is no problem as the hotel provides a buggy shuttle service for hotel guests going between the airport and the hotel.
In summary, there are some other hotels to consider but they are far away from the airport, at least 5 kilometres or more and they will not interest the transit or stopover traveller unlike the Airside and Pan Pacific hotels which are the best choices near to the airport.
